An advantage for patients to come to the East Coast Tubal Ligation Reversal Center is the faculty. Drs. Bateman and Williams are subspecialty certified in infertility (Reproductive Endocrinology and
Infertility) by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Bateman founded the IVF
program in Charlottesville, VA, in 1986 and has been performing tubal reversal surgery since 1980. Dr. Williams joined Dr. Bateman in 2001 and also regularly performs tubal reversal surgery.
Dr. Christopher Williams is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist, infertility specialist. He is a native of Virginia growing up in Reston, Virginia. He has three children - two boys and a girl. He attended the College of William & Mary earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
He then graduated from the University of Virginia Medical School in 1994 to complete his medical education.
Following medical school, Dr. Williams went to Charlotte, North Carolina, to undertake a four year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carolinas Medical Center.
Dr. Williams was selected in 1998 by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to complete a three-year Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Williams served on the UVA Faculty from 2001 to 2005 and was Co-Director of the In Vitro Fertilization Program.
Dr. Williams is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and sub-specialty certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a member of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
He is the author of a fertility book for couples sold internationally, The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally. Dr. Williams is fluent in Spanish is a great asset to our Spanish speaking couples.
Dr. Laura Smith was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is married. She spent time in Missouri and Alabama growing up, and returned to the University of Virginia for college. She studied both science and archaeology, and earned a Bachelor of Arts with Highest Distinction in 1999.
Dr. Smith attended the University of Virginia Medical School and graduated in 2003. She then completed her four-year Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the University of Virginia. In 2007, Dr. Smith was chosen to complete her three-year Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston IVF, affiliate programs of Harvard Medical School.
She received a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during fellowship for her research on a new biologic pathway in the ovary, and continues to have an active interest in research. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is a member of the Association of Women Surgeons and the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Bruce Bateman, MD |

Dr. Bruce Bateman is a native of Georgia. He is married with two daughters. Dr. Bateman completed his college at the University of Georgia and graduated in 1970 from the Medical College of Georgia.
He undertook residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Virginia. He then completed a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Virginia. Dr. Bateman served as the Director of the Division of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery for 10 years and was the Co-Director of the In Vitro Fertilization program. Dr. Bateman's training and infertility experience make him one of the most qualified fertility specialists in Virginia and the surrounding areas.
Dr. Bateman founded the In Vitro Fertilization Program here in Charlottesville, VA in 1986. He was on the UVA Faculty for 24 years. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is sub-specialty certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a member of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons. He has been named one of the “Nation’s Top Doctor’s” beginning in 1996.
